I have been flying PPCs since 1996, logged over 900 flight hrs with over 1000 takeoffs and landings. I have flown all the major PPC brands - and not so known brands - and currently own and fly the finest PPC on the market, the Powrachute Airwolf.

I also host a local PPC club called the Eagle's Nest. We have around 25 members around Michigan and hold regular meetings, flying events and just have fun.

The Sport Flying evolution has just begun. In 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), working closely with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) created what has been called “The biggest change in aviation in 50 years.” They created an entirely new category of aircraft (Light Sport Aircraft) as well as a new category of pilot license (Sport Pilot), both aimed specifically at consumer recreational flying. Now, the dream of flight is more accessible and more affordable than ever before. Satisfy your sense of adventure, Its time to join the Powrachute team and let Eagle Airsports of Michigan help you get started today!

We have been in existent since 1998 with the whole purpose of providing a central point of contact and support for all flyers of Powered Parachutes. Over the years we have had members come and go, even the ones who have moved away think they are still part of the Eagle’s Nest, once a member always a member.

We usually have 2 big meetings each year, where we come together and discus our flying experiences, go over any changes to the flying rules and maintenance issues, with the main idea of just getting together swapping stories and have fun.

We have a beautiful 880ft. landing strip which I keep rolled and mowed that is available to all Powered Parachute flyers.

If your interested in becoming a member please contact Jim Cottrell.

Sport Pilot and LSA Category

Sport pilot training is perfectly geared towards new flyers as the rule changes have dramatically lowered the cost and time necessary to learn to fly. There are no more hassles or excuses. So get to it. To get licensed, sport pilots must be at least 17 years of age, in good health, and possess a valid driver’s license. No FAA medical certificate is required. Upon passing your checkride, the FAA Examiner will issue your Sport Pilot License. Should you later desire to obtain a higher-rated license, all of your hours spent before and after your SPL will be applicable if you have trained with a CFI with those higher ratings. In addition, CFI endorsements can be obtained to increase your pilot privileges, such as flying in controlled airports and controlled airspace.

In creating the new “Light Sport Aircraft” (LSA) classification of planes in 2004, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) filled the much-needed performance and price gap between less sophisticated ultra-light aircraft and larger, more complex transportation focused aircraft. Since LSA are targeted to recreational pilots who primarily fly for fun, LSA are designed to be affordable, lightweight, and easy to operate. All Powrachute Aircraft are classified as S-LSA (special-light sport aircraft), which are factory built, ready-to-fly aircraft, or E-LSA (experimental-light sport aircraft). All S-LSA are inspected and receive an airworthiness certificate from the FAA prior to flight.
